Labrys

As opposed to the idea of having Gil Sans main typeface for the Athens Olympics 2004, Labrys was designed to relate directly to the early cultural heritage of Greece. Inspired by the Minoan geometric designs is build on a system of form and proportion, the Daedalic grid, which is actually a custom digital tool to draw mono-linear letterforms. Mono-linear forms refer to the linear scripts and the qualities of greek inscriptional lettering. The name Labrys, was a term for a doubleheaded axe, a key Minoan symbol from which the well known word “labyrinth” emerged. Labyrinth as Knossos Palace designed by legendary architect Daedalus.
